Editorial line

Revista de Fomento Social is a scientific journal that provides a focus on multidisciplinary approaches to development, bringing together areas as diverse as, but not limited to, economics, law, communication, education, sociology, international relations, health, politics or engineering, while placing special emphasis on their underlying ethical dimensions.

Both publication for authors and access to the articles for readers is completely free of charge, being exempt from any kind of fees.

Revista de Fomento Social is published by Loyola University and was created in 1946 by Jesuits at the Social Development Centre (Centro de Fomento Social, founded in 1926). It is the longest-running Spanish academic publication with a 70-year history of uninterrupted publications. Its content, however, does not only appeal to academics, but is also consulted by professionals interested in an interdisciplinary approach to problems dealt with in the wide-ranging field of Development Studies.

Who are the target readers of our journal?

Revista de Fomento Social is a journal with a focus on Development Studies. The intended readership includes researchers, students of Development as well as professionals of the sector, who are presented with a multidisciplinary approach that covers, among others, areas such as economics, international relations, sociology, architecture, engineering, social, human or legal sciences.

What does each issue contain?

Each of our issues typically contains the following: 

  • Four or five articles classified into studies or notes 
  • Documents or texts of interest 
  • Specialised bibliographies
  • Summaries of theses from the University Loyola PHD programme in Inclusive and Sustainable Development, as well as theses relating to Development Studies from other national or international universities.

The scientific and academic quality of all the articles will be evaluated by two anonymous reviewers (peer review, double-blind).

Open Access Policy

The journal Fomento Social is available in open access in order to disseminate, promote and contribute to the exchange of knowledge.

There is no charge for submitting articles. Nor for editing or publishing them in open access.

Permission to Self-Archive and Digital Preservation

The Revista de Fomento Social authorizes authors to publish their work on the Internet (personal web pages or institutional repositories) always after publication (in no case before). Following the objectives of our journal in relation to Open access, we want to promote the visibility of the articles published in it by reading and citing the article, and thus achieve a greater and faster dissemination of the published work.

Interoperability protocol

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Editor is responsible for ensuring that the editing, authoring and peer review processes leading to publication incorporate good practice and ethical, accountable and transparent behaviour by all parties involved. This includes the use of AI during the editing process.

The editing and authoring processes of Revista de Fomento Social will never rely on AI, the use of which will be restricted to being a support tool to make these processes faster or more efficient. The Editor will ensure that authors, peer reviewers and Editorial Board members are adequately informed about their use of AI. Reviewers may not resort to the use of AI to evaluate manuscripts (Vid. infra).

Warning: in none of the editing, authoring and peer review processes, manuscripts received for evaluation may be uploaded (in whole or in part) into an AI application, as their content could potentially become part of the training data. Confidential information would be shared and the authors' intellectual property rights would be infringed.

Statement of good practices in gender equality

The Revista de Fomento Social recommends the use of effective scientific language that takes gender perspective into account. Manuscripts should be written in an inclusive and non-sexist manner, be accurate, and avoid unnecessary duplication. It is recommended that the current rules of the Royal Spanish Academy be followed.

The journal publishes the full names of all authors, contributors, and reviewers in order to identify their gender.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy and Peer Review Process

The journal uses the Turnitin anti-plagiarism tool. Before starting the double-blind peer review process, the document will go through this tool.

The articles are analyzed by evaluators to the publishing entity, anonymously,  issuing a judgment based on criteria of relevance, originality, clarity and pertinence of the work presented.
