Call for Papers "Migration and Development: Interdisciplinary Perspectives" Special Issue, November 2026
Posted on 2025-09-15Migration and Development: Interdisciplinary Perspectives
In a world where migration continues to reshape economies, societies, and cultures, understanding its role in development is critical. From remittances that sustain households to diasporas that drive innovation and knowledge exchange, migration is a powerful engine for transformation. Yet, the developmental contributions of migration often remain overshadowed by narratives of humanitarian crisis, social tensions and economic competition. This special issue seeks to reframe the discussion by foregrounding the diverse and multifaceted ways in which migration contributes to development, inviting scholars and practitioners to look beyond borders and disciplinary divides.
This special issue will be published in Revista de Fomento Social, an academic journal active since 1946, indexed in Dialnet, and recognized for its long-standing academic prestige and intellectual contribution to debates on social, economic, and cultural development. The journal has a free open access policy wich contributes to the egalitarian disttribution of knowledge. We highly encourage interdisciplinary contributions that highlight the multiple ways migration drives and interacts with development at local, national, transnational, and global levels.
Possible Areas of Focus (include but are not limited to):
• Economic contributions of migrants, remittances, and financial flows
• Migration and social development (education, health, welfare)
• Migrants’ roles in cultural and political change
• Transnational networks, diasporas, and knowledge exchange
• Gendered and generational perspectives on migration and development
• Migration governance, policies, and their developmental impacts
• Migration, development and advances in Human Rights
We welcome theoretical, empirical, and methodological contributions that advance debates and provide new insights into the transformative role of migration in development.
