The influence of the integral humanism of Jacques Maritain in Caritas in veritate

Abstract
One of the most recent actualizations of Catholic Social Thought is the Encyclical letter Caritas in veritate, which aims to re–take and actualize the teachings from Pope Paul VI, focusing them through the concept of integral human development. To understand the origins of this text, it’s needed to mention the French philosopher Jacques Maritain (1882–1973), whose Integral humanism made a very intensive influence on Paul VI. In this paper, we aim a double purpose: first, to show Maritain’s influence in the concept of integral human development’s evolution and, second, to contribute to a better understanding of Caritas in veritate, specially through one of it’s key issues: gift and gratuity as fraternity pedagogy.
