Liberalism, social democracy and social Catholicism. Sociological approach to the ideological foundations of the construction of Europe
Main Article Content
Abstract
The thesis that the author presents in this text considers the ideological basis of European construction to be the result of a masterly synthesis between liberalism (in both its economic and political dimension), socialist reform (in its social democratic version) and social Catholicism (expressed politically in the Christian democrats, and, from the socioeconomic standpoint, in corporativism). These three schools of thought make up the legacy which inspired the European project, forming part of the system of values that adapted to the global context and was open to the incorporation of new countries, thereby fueling the political culture that embodies the European Union today.
