Abstract

The 1/2004 Organic Law for Comprehensive Protection against Domestic (Gender) Violence has been surrounded by controversy. Welcomed by some as the panacea to solve such a disquieting problem, and reviled by others as deeply discriminating towards men, it is worthwhile stopping to look at its articles to see what sort of measures it contains, and how it is that it protects women and not men. In this sense, a reflection is made on the concept of gender violence and on the context of this law. The most novel measures are described, which deal with labour considerations, as for the very first time it covers specific problems that violence causes women who are doing their job
