“Reasons” for the war in a global society. From Hobbes to human rights

Juan Antonio Senent De Frutos

Abstract

After a diagnosis about global society, reasons regarding the question of war are given, the “good reasons” for the war, establishing a differentiation between law and political reasons on the one hand, and religious and cultural reasons on the other hand. In the first part, two concepts are taken into account: the absolute dominance over the law and the preventive war. In the second part the fair war, against fundamentalism, and the cultural war, normally presented as the confrontation between civilization and barbarism. As a conclusion, the author proposes to go beyond the art of war, and so supports the restoration of human rights as the only perspective to overcome what seem to be confrontation reasons.
