The reality of Society: Opportunities and challenges for university centres of the Society of Jesus

Abstract
This text reflects the author’s participation in a training course for university lecturers at centres belonging to the Society of Jesus in Spain. Its aim is to identify those phenomena of our times that represent the main challenges that have to be faced as part of our university activity: globalisation in its various forms, the spreading of neoliberalisation, the social State in crisis, religion seeking a new place in society. However, as these matters are addressed in the Society of Jesus’ university centres, they should be contained within a specific framework with its own characteristics: this is what is reflected in the first half of the studies, drawing inspiration from recent statements made in Jesuitical university circles by the Father General of the Society of Jesus.
