Abstract

The author describes the changes in the labour world caused by internationalisation, particularly regarding the consequences affecting social policies. Firstly, he refers to work conditions particularly in Europe; alluding to the standard work functions in the present context, to work quality and its relation with new technologies, pointing out his concern for the guarantee of the workers’ rights. Secondly, he deals with the characteristics of employment in Spain, insisting on the question of unemployment, the duration of the work contract, and in work quality; he also mentions employment of the disabled and attention to the elderly. Finally, he proposes some initiatives related with employment as, for example, active employment policies, with social protection, with the guarantee of minimum income and with the reduction in social inequality.
