Abstract

After the fall in collectivism and the latest encyclical strictures for society on the part of Pope John Paul II, certain sectors believe to be observing an approach, if not an open reconciliation, of the Church’s thinking to liberalism. But this interpretation lacks a deeper analysis. Specifically, the concept of State as proposed by John Paul II in encyclical «Centesimus annus» (1991) contains elements that show how distances still exist. For this, attention must be centred on anthropology and the concept of freedom. Therefore the 11 years that separate us from the «Centesimus annus» have in no way deprived this document of its validity today.
