Abstract

Child–labour has come under the eye of public concern in recent years. However, in general in Spain, and more specifically in Andalusia, little reliable research has been done on the subject. In this article the author presents some of the results of his qualitative study entitled «Child–labour in Andalusia» carried out within the framework of the ‘Instituto de Estudios Sociales Avanzados de Andalucía’ (IESA–Córdoba) of the ‘Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas’ (CSIC). According to this sociological study, the two factors most taken into account by society in Andalusia when evaluating whether the work done by a minor can be considered exploitation or not, are the child’s age and if they attend school.
