Mechanisms to justify violence and the culture of peace
Main Article Content
Abstract
We are stating nothing new if we maintain that conflict and violence are two realities present in our daily coexistence. However, we should attempt to avoid certain temptations: on the one hand, accepting them as a common occurrence, which leads to insensitivity about the consequences, and on the other, ignoring and avoiding any kind of questioning of the situation. In the following pages, Jesús María Alemany, Jesuit, director in Zaragoza of the Research Seminar for Peace, vividly describes several of his ideas for overcoming this trend of violence and supporting a trend for peace. As the author so well states, the trend for peace or ‘peace ecology’ does not endeavour to eradicate conflicts from our society, but to discover a basis for solving them in a non–violent way, or, to use a better expression, in a more humane way.
