Abstract
Este trabajo trata de mostrar de forma cuantitativa la situación actual de la mujer en nueve países «ricos», entre los que se incluye España, con la finalidad de que la comparación de los datos objetivos nos permita establecer la situación de nuestro país en el contexto económico–social que nos resulta más próximo y con la última información estadística disponible. Se han seleccionado una serie de indicadores demográficos y de participación femenina en el trabajo y en el poder. Estos indicadores nos muestran que en el periodo 1960–1997 se han dado grandes cambios y la participación de la mujer ha incrementado notablemente en el plano educativo, laboral, y de poder político. Pero aún queda mucho por hacer para la conciliación de trabajo remunerado y vida familiar y la participación igualitaria de la población femenina en los centros de decisión y de poder económico, académico y político.
