Abstract

The priest of Madrid, Antonio de Rojas, was the first to publish in print the famous sonnet No me mueve, mi Dios, para quererte, in a work titled Vida del espíritu, which appeared in Madrid in 1628. It was republished several times in Spanish, and it had an important repercussion in Europe through its translations into French, Italian, German and the Dutch language. But it was included in the Index librorum prohibitorum because it was considered that its doctrine on prayer was infected with quietism. In these pages the person is identified, his works are reviewed, likewise the editions and translations; its inclusion in the Index is exposed, and also its possible relation with quietism, the authorship of the poems he inserted in his works, and his relation with the celebrated sonnet, about which other studies have recently appeared in ATG (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 y 2016).
