The Right to Peace in the Thought of Francisco Suárez
Main Article Content
Abstract
Peace has become a longing that is especially relevant due to the situation that is being experienced in Ukraine.
That is why I want to look back at the thinkers of the Spanish Golden Age, because I am sure I can find important reflections on peace in their teachings.
I will look for them especially in the work of Francisco de Suarez. His thought defends that the end of war is peace and security, and only those who start a war taking this end into account and acting in accordance with certain rules, carry out a just war. Faced with this thought, we ask ourselves, what kind of peace is the philosopher-theologian referring to? Without a doubt a very specific one. The only one that he considers real and lasting, which is the one that is based on justice and the common good, because only by attending to these rights will it be possible to live in permanent peace.
