Was truly necessary for Descartes his anthropological dualism?

Abstract
The coherence of Cartesian anthropological dualism between body and soul is difficult to assume from his philosophical system. For this reason, this research investigates the reasons that led him to maintain it. In order to do so, Descartes' philosophy is presented as a voluntarism that establishes the limits of reason. Then we turn to the Meditations to verify that, although Descartes establishes two entities (body as res extensa and soul as res cogitans), he also affirms that they are a single unity. The hypothesis of this research is that Descartes is entrenched in his dualism in order to justify on the one hand the immortality of the soul and, on the other hand, to allow the advancement of the science of his time.
