Abstract

The article aims to explore the concepts of reason, experience and history: three fundamental concepts in Francesco Guicciardini's Ricordi. This work, written in 1530, is composed of 221 short sentences that can be considered as aphorisms and that synthesise the philosophical thought of the Florentine. Within these reflections on different subjects, a multitude of practical teachings of great interest and topicality can be extracted. The Ricordi can be considered a precedent of later baroque philosophy, since the work advances a series of concepts and ideas that would be developed and developed philosophically centuries later. The article aims to be a bridge to the other texts on political philosophy and institutions written by the author, in which the rule of law, institutions and the separation of powers.
