Is there room for “the other” as a political individual? The religious community as a bridge between Sunni and Catholic traditions in an era of exclusivism.

Abstract
Throughout history, the notion of citizenship, as an understanding of the relationship between an individual and a political community, has been in continuous evolution, being unevenly embraced by political thought developed within different religious traditions. The way in which these traditions view human beings as political individuals is not independent either of the historical context or of the manner in which each tradition considers religious diversity. This article aims to present the way in which the faith professed by the individual conditions the Catholic and Sunni understandings of them as a member of a political community. Theological exclusivism will emerge as the element that minimises the differences between both traditions.
