Social Doctrine of the Church and politics. A historical perspective
Main Article Content
Abstract
Political institutions are not abstract and timeless entities; they own a historic character difficult to ignore. Starting from what in the modern world is understood as politics, in these pages it is analysed the way the Church has continued to face the political issues that have been unfolding along the last 200 years. It has been a complex course, in which the Church has seen herself forced to rethink her own place in the society of this time. In this survey, we identify four successive stages with these four terms: confrontation or failure to meet up, drawing nearer, reconsideration, and consolidation. A final reference to Pope Francis, allows us to suggest some of his own and new contributions, both through his gestures and in his written texts.
