Sociological profiles of contemporary religions

Abstract
Religion and society exhibit an intimate relationship which can be studied with the methods of the social sciences. On the basis of classical sociology and further developments, it is feasible to trace and define some of the major profiles and trends of current religions. Today's cross-cutting issues are the process of secularization, the typology of religious organizations, the problem of religious integrisms and fundamentalisms, and dialogue between religions.
