Abstract
This article presents a highly important issue for the Church in Spain, whose Dioceses and institutes are endeavoring to know and keep as well the memory of the XX century´s martyrs. Research in the public archives should ever be a necessary requisite to assess the quality and competence of the studies around the processes of the martyrdom. A practical case of investigation is offered about a priest of the Diocese of Jaén, Francisco López Navarrete (1892-1936), who was put on the list of the Beatifieds, in 2013.
