Abstract

The category of “debt” has an interesting place in the Christian imaginary. More concretely, the “debt” is an image that has had a very remarkable relevance in the soteriological articulation of the New Testament’s reflection, and in the Church’s tradition. The purpose of this article is to point out how the interpretation of this category has been carried out starting from two fundamental models of comprehension: the redemption and the satisfaction. The consequences that derive from both models make it clear contrasting visions of God’s image, of the understanding of the justice, and of the Christian vision of reality.
