For a theology of mercy

Abstract

The Church, summoned  by Pope Francis through the Misericordiae Vultus’ Bull, is celebrating the Jubilee of Mercy. Facing this invitation, theology must react contributing with what is appropriate to its mission: the rational articulation of the faith. The present article has as its objective, to rescue mercy from a sentimental and moralizing atmosphere, in order to manifest the potential of reason owned by faith, to think the reality. This objective is going to be developed through four consecutive steps, which show essential dimensions of mercy, like: its necessary unveiling, its narrative articulation, its potential for the Christian discernment, and its personal character.
