Abstract

We present the relationship René Girard established between Christianity and the various forms of mimicry. We analyze the revelatory power that Girard gives to Christianity as a historical force of de-mythologizing. The apparent similarities between the Gospel and the most primitive pagan myths are due to this process of revelation, where Christianity performs a genuine anthropological revolution. This revolution is a manifestation of the mimetic nature of desire and the possibility of its transformation into a faculty to improve the man.
