Some questions for the 21st century bioethics agenda
Main Article Content
Abstract
At the beginning of the 1970s, the term bioethics was coined to designate a knowledge that would serve as a bridge between biological science and ethics. The transformations that were beginning to take place in the fields of biology, science and technology called for the creation of a discipline that would guide humanity along the ‘bridge to the future’. When that future is no longer something to come, but a present reality, bioethics has become the focus of humanity's attention. We all need its knowledge in order to respond to the many questions that our increasingly technological and advanced society is urgently posing. Francisco J. Alarcos, in response to this need, brings together in his article the major challenges facing Bioethics in the 21st century. Using clear, accessible language, the author offers an overview of the problems that beset the individual and society in general.
