70 Years of the Catholic Social Thought: A Panoramic Synthesis
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Catholic Social Thought, in its strictest sense, has a history that is not very long. The Church's magisterium began systematically addressing social issues, especially from the second half of the 19th century. However, in this century and a half that has passed, the evolution we have witnessed has been considerable, which makes it richer, while also requiring a more attentive reading of each document. This reading allows us to discover the effort made to respond to the specific problems of each historical moment. Furthermore, the analysis of the texts reveals how the personality of the six popes who occupied the papacy during this 70-year period left their mark on what they wrote. Finally, it cannot be ignored that the Second Vatican Council was an event that led to a reorientation of the entire Social Thought, based on a new way of understanding the Church's presence in society.
