Asentimiento, certeza interior y consenso colectivo: John Henry Newman y Michel Maffesoli
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyses the concept of assent in John Henry Newman and Michel Maffesoli, exploring its dimension as an expression of human vital force. Newman conceives assent as a personal act of faith, integrating reason, will, and inner experience, guided by the ability to reach certainties through accumulated evidence. Maffesoli views it as a postmodern collective phenomenon, based on an affective logic that fosters community cohesion through symbols and emotions. Through a comparative and interdisciplinary approach, the study identifies convergences in resilience against uncertainty, highlighting assent’s relevance for understanding the interplay between faith, reason, and social cohesion in contemporary contexts.
