The “ratio studiorum” the pedagogy of the Society of Jesus
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study is motivated by the fact that this year marks the fourth centenary of the official promulgation of the Ratio Studiorum, or curriculum for Jesuit schools, according to which the educational work of the Society of Jesus was carried out for centuries through a network of public and free schools that spread throughout the world. The Ratio Studiorum is an educational document which, in today's terms, contains “Educational Objectives,” a “School Plan,” and “Organizational and Operational Regulations.” The author provides a historical study of the vicissitudes of the Ratio, from the appearance of Jerónimo Nadal's Constitutiones Collegii Messanensis to the publication of The Character of the Educational Centers of the Society of Jesus in 1996.
