Purpose of the Church's cultural heritage
Main Article Content
Abstract
The term “cultural heritage” does not appear in the canons of the Code of Canon Law currently in force in the Latin Church, promulgated in 1983. In this article, the author examines the reasons for this “neglect” of the issue of cultural assets, highlighting how the canons have so far referred to the conservation of the Church's heritage, without specifying the particular nature of cultural assets. The article reflects on the growing importance of the concept of “culture” in the official language of the Spanish Church since the document on the legal framework for joint Church-State action on historical and artistic heritage, signed by the President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and the Minister of Culture in 1980.
