Is it worth commemorating the 30th anniversary of "Populorum Progressio"?
Main Article Content
Abstract
The author does not merely seek to evoke a past event, such as the appearance of the encyclical Populorum Progressio, but rather to recover and update the most valuable contents of this document, considering today's new context: globalization as a backdrop; alongside it, the two phenomena that seem to have made it possible: the new technological revolution and the collapse of the collectivist system. These pages review the essential points of Populorum Progressio, especially highlighting those that have not lost their validity today, but rather have gained it. First, a summary of this encyclical is provided, followed by an analysis of its conclusions in the face of new circumstances. With its concept of integral and solidarity-based development, Paul VI's encyclical anticipated many subsequent efforts. The most significant of these focus on human development and sustainable development.
