An Overview of John Paul II’s Three Social Encyclicals

Abstract

The comprehensive approach of the Church’s Social Doctrine and the methodological implications it entails, the importance it attaches to anthropology and the world of values, and the critical analysis of ideologies and the systems inspired by them: these are three key elements that form the backbone of John Paul II’s social thought. The abundance of his written and oral statements and the significance of world events during these 18 years of his long pontificate invite us to systematize the main lines of his thought. The three social encyclicals he has published are the best source material for this.
