The Jesuit missions in colonial Paraguay
Main Article Content
Abstract
These pages seek to explain the nature of the “economic and sociocultural experiment” of the “Jesuit Reductions of Paraguay,” which UNESCO describes as “unprecedented in the history of peoples.” To that end, we examine the challenges and obstacles it had to overcome, the keys to its successes, and the causes of its ultimate downfall, which was closely linked to the expulsion of the Society of Jesus from all the domains of the Spanish Crown.
