The Dark Night of St. John a radical transformation of the religious ego

Abstract
This study is an attempt to update the valuable legacy that Saint John of the Cross transmitted in his most valued symbol: the dark night of the soul. In the following pages, the dark night is presented as the profound crisis that typically accompanies any risky spiritual journey. Thanks to this radical process, the certainties of the possessive and self-referential self are overcome and transcended. Furthermore, the collapse of the psycho-spiritual framework that had previously sustained the meaning of life, unmask childish self-deceptions projected onto the god of necessity, opening the individual to the disconcerting grace revealed in the God of Jesus.
